A research person & singer of Folk Music, working for the Indigenous Art & Culture of India for the last 15 years. He is a documentary film maker & music director working in national and international forums, television & feature films and the founder-director of Sahajiya Foundation. Sahajiya is working at the grass root level for the promotion and exploration of Bengali Folk Music into the World Music arena. Besides production and performance, their work also successfully marks the multifaceted line of actions which includes a thorough research work on primitive folk songs of Bengal, documentation, revival of dying art and voluntarily working to support the veteran aged folk artists and their family in indigent circumstances. He is also associated with various social development, environment awareness & conservation projects.

TILAK MAHARAJ

Tilak is a very popular folk lather percussionist of Bengal. He accompanied with almost all the internationally reputed folk masters of Bengal like Purna Das Baul, Paban Das Baul, Narottom Das Baul, Gour Khepa, Goshtho Gopal Das, Parikshit Bala, Swapna Chakrabarty, Kalachand Darbesh and others. He is an innovative versatile musician with an in-depth knowledge about the philosophy of the mystic songs of Bengal and his search for the spirituality, sensuality and inner rhythm of the songs continues. He is a rare resource of our country, carries with him the music of love, self-exploration, devotion, ecstasy and the soul of Bengal.

Tarun is an instinctive musician (Flutist) with a unique style and creative approach. His sensitivity, improvisation skill and an in-depth knowledge of music has been revealed in Bengali wind instruments for last 30 years. He is a versatile musician having special focus in Indian and western Folk music. He has learnt the intricacies of flute under the guidance of Guru Uday Dey of Kolkata. He has created magic with his flute all over India and in many other countries of the world.

He has the glorious experience to play with the famous musical maestros of India & abroad like Pt. Tanmoy Bose, Ustad Taufeeq Qureshi, Pt. Suvankar Bannerjee, Late Pt. Dipak Choudhury and others. Apart from his contributions to Indian classical music as a renowned Tabla player in Farukhabad Gharana, he also experienced a diverse variety of world music crossover. Collaborated with other musicians to create musical soirees for them and performed with them at live shows. He is a disciple of Tabla maestro Pt. Tanmoy Bose

Rajdeep is a groovy guitarist having the experience of working with the leading bands of Kolkata. The youngest member of Sahajiya with a natural spark in his performance, Rajdeep is also adept at mesmerizing the audience with the soulful folk melodies that flow from his guitar. He has successfully blended the essences of the world music with the folk music of Bengal.

INDRANIL SAHA

Indranil is a very spontaneous and energetic percussionist & acoustic drummer with high sense of musical potential. He can create different rhythm patterns that are unique & universal and contributes large part in Sahajiya. Indranil gives the back vocal and plays the percussions & drums simultaneously, a rare skill for any percussionist.

KHUDIRAM DAS

Khudiram got a natural instinct of music from his family tradition. He learnt folk percussion instruments from his father, Lt Kalipada Das, a well-known folk musician of Bengal. Though he plays a traditional instrument, but he can merge very spontaneously into any form of music from any part of the world. He mesmerizes the audience with his high energetic performance which includes a spectacular dance with ghungroos in his feet and a unique body language.

Rana is a music programmer and sound designer, specialist in live sound & audio mixing-mastering in the scenario of contemporary alternative music of Kolkata.
